InfographicFAO Remote Sensing Survey reveals tropical rainforests under pressure as agricultural expansion drives global deforestation 2021
Also available in:
No results found.FAO's Remote Sensing Survey provides novel information on land use change dynamics and deforestation drivers. The survey was conducted as part of the Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020 and in close cooperation with countries. This participatory sample-based exercise produced independent and consistent remote-sensing based estimates on land use change dynamics and their key drivers at global, regional and biome levels. -
DocumentGlobal forest land-use change 1990-2005: Initial results from a global remote sensing survey 2005
Also available in:
No results found. The use of satellite imagery can substantially improve knowledge on changes in forest area as a result of deforestation, afforestation and natural forest expansion. This summary outlines some of the initial findings on forest land use and land-use change of a global remote sensing survey carried out to complement the country reporting process as part of the Global Forest Resources Assessments led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). -
BookletProceedings of the technical workshop Use of remote sensing and SEPAL platform in support to land, water and crop monitoring for sustainable agriculture in Arab countries
14-16 March 2023
2023Also available in:
No results found. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) provides technical support to countries and stakeholders to plan, implement and monitor land, water and crop resources. The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) provides assistance to 22 Arab countries in coordinating agricultural development, including on strengthening technical capacities on the use of GIS/RS. In this context, the Geospatial Unit of the Land and Water Division at FAO and the AOAD jointly organized a virtual technical workshop from 14 to 16 March 2023 on the use of remote sensing and SEPAL platform in support to sustainable land cover and crop type monitoring.
