Synopsis (short abstract) The Action Framework (2021-2025) for the Global Action on Green Development of Special Agro-Products: “One country – One Priority Product” (OCOP) presents the rationale, main pillars, key principles, thematic areas, results framework, budget, and activity planning, coordination and implementation, and guidelines for country project application for implementation of the Global Action. Special agricultural products (SAPs) are agricultural products with unique qualities and special characteristics associated with geographical locations, farming practices and cultural heritages. They are important examples of underutilized resources, which have not received the same attention as commonly known agricultural products, but which can significantly contribute to ensuring food security and healthy diets, supporting a sustainable bioeconomy, and improving farmers’ livelihoods and economic growth while protecting the environment and biodiversity. SAPs include all kinds of agricultural products, with the potential to become national or local agricultural products, and to be integrated into local, regional, and global markets and trade. In this context, Global Action has been developed based on the renewed mission of FAO. The Global Action will promote inclusive, profitable, and environmentally sustainable value chains through optimizing the structure, functionality, and service of SAPs production systems, minimizing the application of agrochemicals, waste, and losses, and maximizing integrated agro-profits to enable the transition to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agriculture production.

FAO has developed the Global Action on Green Development of Special Agro-Products (SAPs): “One Country One Priority Product” (OCOP) in line with the new FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31. It aims to support FAO Members in addressing the interlinked economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable agri-food systems, and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Global Action will promote inclusive, profitable and environmentally sustainable food value-chains through green development of SAPs with unique qualities and special characteristics. Green development of SAPs can help address the existing and emerging challenges, including natural resource constraints, environmental pollution, ecological degradation and climate change. Objectives of the launch event The launch event of the Global Action has three objectives: • present the framework of the Global Action and raise awareness of the contribution of green development of SAPs to the achievement of the SDGs, the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31, as well as its Regional Initiatives, and country priorities; • seek interest and support of FAO Members to contribute to, cooperate on and promote the implementation of the Global Action; and • engage a wide group of diverse stakeholders to participate actively in the implementation of the Global Action.

Le cadre d'action (2021-2025) pour l'action mondiale sur le développement vert des produits agricoles spéciaux: Un pays un produit prioritaire (OCOP) présente la justification, les principaux piliers, les principes clés, les domaines thématiques, le cadre de résultats, le budget et la planification, la coordination et la mise en œuvre des activités, et les lignes directrices pour l'application de projets nationaux pour la mise en œuvre de l'Action mondiale. Les produits agricoles spéciaux (PAS) sont des produits agricoles dotés de qualités uniques et de caractéristiques particulières associées à des emplacements géographiques, des pratiques agricoles et des patrimoines culturels. Ce sont des exemples importants de ressources sous-utilisées, qui n'ont pas reçu la même attention que les produits agricoles communément connus, mais qui peuvent contribuer de manière significative à assurer la sécurité alimentaire et des régimes alimentaires sains, à soutenir une bioéconomie durable et à améliorer les moyens de subsistance des agriculteurs et la croissance économique, tout en protégeant la environnement et biodiversité. Les PAS incluent toutes sortes de produits agricoles, susceptibles de devenir des produits agricoles nationaux ou locaux et d'être intégrés dans les marchés et le commerce locaux, régionaux et mondiaux. Dans ce contexte, l'Action mondiale a été développée sur la base de la mission renouvelée de la FAO. L'Action mondiale promouvra des chaînes de valeur inclusives, rentables et durables sur le plan environnemental en optimisant la structure, la fonctionnalité et le service des systèmes de production des PAS, en minimisant l'application de produits agrochimiques, les déchets et les pertes, et en maximisant les agro-profits intégrés pour permettre la transition vers des systèmes agroalimentaires plus efficaces, plus inclusifs, plus résilients et plus durables.
