As a plant breeder, her role in crop improvement using nuclear science and technology (Induced mutation by Gamma irradiation) led to the development of Namibia’s first-ever mutant germplasms of cowpea, Bambara groundnut pearl millet, and sorghum at the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform (MAWLR,) where she worked as a Scientific Officer for over 15 years. One of her prominent assignments was to represent Namibia, on the Joint FAO/IAEA Technical Cooperation Project (TCP) as a project counterpart between 2007 and 2018, which resulted in great success. She led various expert missions, meetings, and training of local technical and professional staff. In 2018, Dr. Horn was appointed to the High-level Steering Committee for Human Resource Development and Nuclear Resource Management (HLSC) of the African Regional Co-operative Agreement for Research, Development, and Training to Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA) in collaboration with the IAEA where she is also serving as a secretary. She is a recipient of the Joint FAO/IAEA Superior and Outstanding Achievers Award in recognition of major achievements in plant mutation breeding and related biotechnologies which was conferred during the IAEA General Conference in Vienna Austria in September 2021. Dr. Horn is still promoting nuclear science and technology through research mentoring and research with students at MSc and Ph.D. levels under her supervision. She authored several manuals, research articles published in high impact journals and book chapters in high quality books. One of her latest Edition is a book Tittled: Vermicomposting for Sustainable Food Systems in Africa: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-981-19-8080-0.
