Makong is a trade law expert and lecturer on international trade law, trade facilitation and trade policy. He was formerly a chief negotiator of the Africa Group under the WTO and led negotiation in a number of areas including Agriculture leading to an outcome during the 10th WTO ministerial conference. He was also a chief negotiator of UNCTAD and Geneva based G 77 and China. He has been working on AfCFTA with the African Union providing legal expertise on various agreements.
