Brief about Asiru W.B (FIIRO, Lagos)
Graduated from the University of Ibadan with Bachelor of Science degree; Second Class Upper Division in the Department of Agricultural Engineering in 1989. I obtained Master and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees at the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, University of Ibadan in July, 1997 and December, 2010 respectively. Joined Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi in 1997 as Research Officer 1, Chief Research Officer in 2007 and became Deputy Director in Project Development and Design Department (2012). I have published 11 Technical Journal articles; 2 Books, and 14 Conference proceedings. Member, Editorial Committe, NIFST Food Forum (2005). Currently Chairman, FIIRO Cassava Projects Committee and member, External Funding Committee. Vice Chairman, Lagos Chapter, Nigeria Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), 2011., Administrative Secretary, National Cassava Processors and Marketers Association (NCAPMA), 2008 to date. Member Joint Implementation Committee on Popularization of 10% Cassava Composite Bread in Nigeria sponsored by RMRDC, Abuja. 2005. Member, planning committee on stakeholder workshop on cassava production, processing and marketing in Nigeria. Sponsored by RMRDC, Abuja. 2004-2005. Member, planning committee on implementation of 10% cassava flour composite bread. Sponsored by RMRDC, Abuja. 2004. Member Committee on Production of Blue Print for Cassava Production Processing and Marketing in Nigeria. Sponsored by RMRDC, Abuja 2003-2004. Serve as assistant coordinator for FIIRO in Cassava: Adding Value for Africa (C: AVA), from April 2009 - March 2011; Professional member and Vice Chairman (Lagos Chapter), Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), Member Nigerian Society of Engineers (M.N.S.E.), Corporate Member, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (M.N.I.A.E.), Professional Member, American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers (M.A.S.A.B.E.). Registered Agricultural Engineer, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Serve as member of the Design Team for Development of a Flash Dryer for High Quality Cassava Flour organized by International Institute for Tropical Agriculture/Raw Materials Research and Development Council (2006 – 2008). Currently Project Leader, FIIRO. Gains from Losses of Roots and Tubers (GRATITUDE). Collaborative project sponsored by European Union 7th Framework Programme through Natural Resources Institute, U.K. With PhD in Processing and storage of agricultural and food materials. Research works focussed on post harvest technology especially, Drying and storage technology, Training, Image Processing Analysis as related to agricultural and food materials processing, storage and handling as well as design of processing and handling equipment.
