Aquaculture Engineering has obviously been the highlight of Dr. Mevel’s carrier. Following an horizontal training in aquaculture and fish diseases and initiated in 1983 with the teaching of aquaculture pond engineering, aquaculture engineering expertise was further developed through a PhD education that encompassed water treatment as well as the design and construction of the Fish Genetic Research Facility for Auburn University.
Another 25 years of experience in marine, brackish and freshwater aquaculture provided Dr.Mével with an in depth understanding of needs and expectations of the aquaculture industry and of problems encountered in both marine and fresh water environment and aquaculture,
Dr. Mével was able to apply his expertise to numerous private and public sectors projects in 27 countries, on 5 continents including developing nations, designing and implementing aquaculture facilities such as hatcheries, over wintering systems, recirculating research and production facilities.
For the past 15 years, Dr. Mevel activities have been focussed in the gulf region, including Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and lately UAE. Since joining the UAE University, 3 years ago he started a new research program around Aquaculture Recirculating Systems and aquaponics to promote sustainable aquaculture production in the arid regions.
In March 2013, in collaboration with WAS, he organized in UAE University the first Aridland Aquaculture Symposium and workshop.
