The driving question for many of us is "How do we help poor farmers get the information they need, when they need it and in a form they can easily understand and use?". Over 30 years working in International Research and Development, I've seen my initial focus on soils and agronomy evolve to focus on the issues related to improving communication with poor farmers. As such, I have been fortunate to work with many researchers, farmers, extensionists and development workers across more than 30 countries; working  on agronomy, extension and the use of ICT in Extension. I have led a number of on-line Knowledge Bank initiatives developing and delivering "Credible, relevant" information (including the Rice Knowledge Bank while at IRRI and more recently e-Afghan Ag and the International Ag Extension Academy at UC Davis). I've also developed a number of on-line diagnostics tools - Rice Doctor, Wheat Doctor and Maize Doctor and Vegetable Doctor. As a field agronomist, I'm keen to see how we can in a very practical way better communicate and use new ICT tools to help farmers.
