How is the Commission financed?

The Commission is supported by Member Nations annual contributions, European Commission (DG-SANTE) and contributions for specific actions as agreed with the country or agency concerned, and in line with the EuFMD and FAO rules and regulations.

Member Nations Contributions

The level of contributions for the 2026-2027 Biennium was adopted at the 46th General Session in May 2025, while the scale of contributions, approved at the 45th General Session of the EuFMD in 2023, includes five categories determined by a formula based on two equally weighted criteria: (a) each country’s FAO contribution and (b) its livestock population.

When a nation joins the EuFMD, the contributions are determined by the Executive Committee in accordance with the Financial Regulations of the Commission. The determination made by the Executive Committee shall be subject to confirmation by the Commission at its next regular session.
