ANDA - Animal Rights News Agency

Silvana Andrade has a career spanning over 39 years in journalism and communications, which culminated in 2008 with the founding of ANDA, the world’s first news agency focused on animal rights. The NGO is primarily dedicated to the production and distribution of news related to animal and nature rights, as well as legal actions in defense of animals. Silvana has influenced legislation and public policies in Brazil by advising members of the National Congress and state and municipal parliaments. She has given lectures at the National Congress, state legislative houses, city councils, and the Public Prosecutor's Office, and has also presented numerous times at national and international conferences, including in Washington DC, Los Angeles, Toronto, Luxembourg, and Oxford. She is the organizer of two books on animal rights and is frequently interviewed on the subject by media outlets.

She serves as an ad-hoc advisor to UNESCO-SOST in Brazil, linked to the UNESCO Sustainability Front, a chair at Barcelona Polytechnic University of Catalonia. In 2019, she was one of five women worldwide honored on International Women’s Day by the Horyou institution, based in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2010, she received the international World Compassion Award, the same award given to Dr. Zilda Arns, for her tireless work in defense of animals and the planet.

She was responsible for proposing the idea of Bill 337/2006, which authorizes the Executive Branch to create public veterinary hospitals in the State of São Paulo, among others. Silvana is a member of the National Network to Combat Disinformation (RNCD), which was established among researchers from Brazilian universities.
