Dr. Gary Pierzynski is a university distinguished professor of soil chemistry and currently serves as head of the Department of Agronomy at Kansas State University. He is a Co-PI on the USAID Feed the Future Sustainable Intensification Innovation Lab, a member of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization Intergovernmental Panel on Soils, former President of the Soil Science Society of America, and incoming President-Elect of the American Society of Agronomy. Pierzynski is known internationally for his knowledge of the chemistry of phosphorus in soil and for his work on remediation of contaminated sites and soils with an emphasis in heavy metals.

Dr. Pierzynski is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America and has received the Soil Science Education Award and the Marion and Chrystie Jackson Soil Science Award from the Soil Science Society of America. He has published more than 80 refereed papers and three books, including the successful textbook "Soils and Environmental Quality", served as the Editor for the Journal of Environmental Quality, and has more given more than 50 invited presentations around the world. Dr. Pierzynski serves as the K-State representative on the Kansas Sorghum Commission, the Kansas Soybean Association, and the Kansas Crop Improvement Association Board as well as serving as a member of the Crop Improvement Committee for the United Sorghum Checkoff Program.
