FAO engages with African member states as they look to improve gender equality in agrifood systems
On 13 March 2023, FAO’s Inclusive Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division, Regional Office for Africa, and Development Law Service addressed the Gender Committee of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) to highlight key legal challenges to gender equality in agrifood systems and provide recommendations for the development of a new model law.  Proposal of a model law on gender equality in agrifood systems comes as part of an ongoing collaboration between FAO and PAP to develop regional framework laws to improve food security and nutrition in Africa. The XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government approved key instruments to address common challenges in the areas of environment, food security and rights in digital environments, as well as 16 special communiqués, including a proposal for fairer international financing for developing countries. Nairobi, 15 March 2023 - More than 30 participants joined the inception meeting for the project “Strengthening inter-regional cooperation for sustainable management of fall armyworm through South-South cooperation” in Nairobi on 15 March 2023. The meeting, conducted in hybrid mode, included members of National Task Forces under FAO’s Global Action for Fall Armyworm Control and technical partners from China, Ghana and Kenya.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and The Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in late January 2023 committing to foster the mobilization of family farmers and their organizations across the Asia region and promote agroecology, climate resilience, inclusive value chains and rural services. FAO's Chief Economist addresses a ministerial meeting at the 5th UN Conference on LDCs in Doha
07/03/2023 Doha - Least Developed Countries (LDCs) stand to benefit from strong partnerships with their Global South counterparts when it comes to making their agrifood systems more efficient, more inclusive, more sustainable and more resilient, the Chief Economist of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Maximo Torero, said today in Doha. "Strong global partnerships, including South-South and Triangular Cooperation, provide key support for agrifood systems transformation, and an open exchange of knowledge and expertise around this important topic," Torero said in an FAO address to a ministerial meeting on South-South Cooperation in the Qatari capital.
