Database Structure/Categories

(1) A numeric counter for each data set within the database [ 869 sets ]
(2) The name of the river upon which the measurement site is located
(3) The name of the measurement site at which the tabulated data was collected
(4) Numeric code for each individual river name within the database [ 569 rivers ]. Many of these rivers are themselves tributaries of others.
(5) Number of monitoring stations on each of the rivers in Column (4)
(6) Number of different data sets obtained at the same monitoring site
(7) Name of the river that has lowest order i.e. that flows into the sea or into inland pans or depressions
(8) Names of the rivers which are tributaries of those in (7)
(9) Names of the rivers which are tributaries of those in (8)
(10) Names of the rivers which are tributaries of those in (9)

Note : The river upon which monitoring has taken place is provided in the highest order column of (7), (8), (9) or (10). If a monitored river is unknown or is a tributary but of an unknown river, 'UNKNOWN' has been entered in the appropriate column (7), (8), or (9)
(11) Details the rivers on which measurements are have been made, i.e. where it flows to, whether it is dammed etc.
(12) The name of the country in which the measurements have been made
(13) The name of the continent in which the measurements have been made : Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Pacific. The authors have made judgements about the appropriate continent to place some rivers, such as those in Papua New Guinea which have been included in Asia rather than Pacific
(14) The Latitude of the measurement site, where known
(15) The Longitude of the measurement site, where known
(16) The catchment area upstream of the measurement site
(17) The year in which a given set of data at a site was begun
(18) The year in which a given set of data at a site ended
(19) The mean annual rainfall occurring in the area upstream of the measurement site for the period given in (17) and (18)
(20) The mean annual runoff occurring at the measurement site for the period given in (17) and (18)
(21) The mean sediment load recorded for the monitored time period when the influence of dams or human and/or natural changes are NOT known
(22) The mean sediment load recorded PRIOR TO the construction of an upstream dam. Uncertainty exists over the exact dates monitored
(23) The mean sediment load recorded AFTER the construction of an upstream dam. Uncertainty exists over the exact dates monitored
(24) The mean annual sediment yield at the measurement site for the period monitored. The method of measurement can influence this. Limited details, where known, are provided in columns (25) and (30)
(25) The word 'Reservoir' when the data measured has been derived from reservoir survey data. The yield column (24) has been modified where possible by use of Brunes curves to take account of trapping efficiency
(26) The volume of the reservoir in the INITIAL year of monitoring used to derive yield
(27) The volume of the reservoir in the FINAL year of monitoring used to derive yield
(28) Provides a code for the reference source(s) from which the authors obtain the data used in compiling this database
(29) Provides details of the source referenced by the references used in column (28)
(30) Provides details pertaining to data entry, method of measurement when known, conversions used and other information relevant to information consistency
