Links To The SDGs AND THE DECADE OF FAMILY FARMING

As IYAFA 2022 falls within the UN Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF 2019-2028), the two celebrations will reinforce one another in providing greater visibility to small-scale producers. Similarly, the Year can act as a springboard towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by 2030, in particular SDG 14.b.

SSF GUIDELINES

Moreover, IYAFA 2022 and the preparations leading up to it offer a good opportunity to review achievements regarding the objectives of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines) and to encourage States to incorporate the SSF Guidelines into public policies and programmes.

Time to get prepared!

To make the most of this opportunity, it is time to think creatively, join hands and start making plans now for how to make IYAFA 2022 a memorable year. Let us give small-scale fishers, fish farmers and fish workers the attention they deserve!
