El Comité de Agricultura (COAG) es uno de los órganos rectores de la FAO. El Comité proporciona orientación global sobre políticas y reglamentación respecto de la agricultura, la ganadería, la inocuidad alimentaria, la nutrición, el desarrollo rural y la ordenación de los recursos naturales.

Establecido en 1971, el Comité está integrado por más de 100 Estados y generalmente se reúne cada dos años, pero puede celebrar períodos de sesiones adicionales si es necesario.

World Soil Charter

The Charter calls for actions by individuals, the private sector, groups and the science community, governments and international organizations to ensure that soils are managed sustainably and that degraded soils are rehabilitated or restored.

Peste des Petits Ruminants Global Eradication Programme

FAO, in collaboration with the World Organisation of Animal Health (OIE), will lead and coordinate efforts by all stakeholders to eradicate Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) by 2030. The deadly viral disease of sheep and goats affects almost one billion poor smallholders and pastoralists in over 70 countries.

FAO’s Strategy for Improving Food Safety Globally

FAO new food safety strategy concentrates on strengthening national food control regulatory capacities; supporting science-based global governance of food safety; promoting improved food safety management along food chains; facilitating access to information through relevant platforms and databases; contributing to food chain intelligence and providing foresight on food regulatory issues.

Anti-microbial resistance (AMR)

The overuse and inappropriate use of antimicrobial drugs are causing widespread resistance to the drugs with dire economic and health consequences. COAG recommended that FAO play a greater role in assisting countries to contain the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the potential negative impacts on food and agriculture in collaboration with all relevant partners at all levels.
