Looking for good practices? Look no further than MEV-CAM’s new Knowledge Bank!

20/06/2023

MEV-CAM has launched its long-awaited Knowledge Bank, a database of good practices on sustainable land management and restoration documented by communities taking part in the initiative.

The Knowledge Bank is free and available for everyone to access, facilitating the sharing of knowledge between South-South countries and beyond. The database currently contains five good practices from Malawi and Uganda: beekeeping, live fencing, farmer managed natural regeneration, gabion baskets, and theatre for development. Many more from Burundi and Jordan will be added in the coming months!

The MEV-CAM good practice journey

MEV-CAM has been working with local communities over the past two years, enabling them to document sustainable skills and good practices that foster biodiversity and help prevent deforestation.

Guided by projects and partners, community members learned new skills and techniques to mitigate the effects of climate change in their own landscapes. Once these skills were applied, MEV-CAM’s participatory processes allowed community members to document them and share their knowledge with others in similar landscapes. The recently published good practices were documented by communities participating in GEF-6’s Resilient Food Systems projects to be upscaled throughout GEF-7’s Sustainable Forest Management Impact Program on Dryland Sustainable Landscapes interventions. They aim shows the impact of good practices on local communities, from their own perspective.

As part of the MEV-CAM initiative, the process of knowledge sharing is captured both by participatory video and the good practice leaflets, which document the processes shown in the videos and provide a step-by-step guide to implementation.

The practices in the Knowledge Bank are available for upscaling, disseminating, and adopting by others. MEV-CAM is also working to share these insights through the South – South Cooperation Knowledge Gateway in the near future, a platform designed to link the local knowledge held in these good practices with technical guidance.

Be sure to check out the Knowledge Bank here.
