EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The data preparation meeting for small pelagic species in the Alboran Sea was held in the Western Mediterranean Unit in Malaga, Spain, from 10 to 14 October 2022. The main objective of this meeting was to provide a platform to review, discuss and analyse input data and first stock assessment runs to provide advice on sardine (Sardina pilchardus) and anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) in the Alboran Sea in view of the Working Group on Stock Assessment of Small Pelagic Species (WGSASP) to be held in December 2022. Sardine and anchovy in geographical subarea (GSA) 6 benefited from the same data analysis and stock assessment model tries. Information and preliminary stock assessment on seven stocks was presented and discussed: sardine in GSAs 1 (a4a), 3 (a4a), 4w (LB-SPR and VIT), 4e (LBSPR and VIT) and 6 (a4a); and anchovy in GSAs 1 (JABBA) and 6 (SPiCT).
