Targets

CFI's efforts to promote sustainable use and management of coastal fisheries will deliver multiple environmental, economic and social benefits.

This will contribute to the achievement of UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and in particular Sustainable Development Goal 14 on conservation and sustainable use of the ocean, seas and marine resources.

CFI will help safeguard coastal ecosystems, including coral reefs, sea grass beds and mangroves, as well as aquatic species and genetic diversities of coastal fisheries' resources.

Making coastal fisheries more sustainable will support greenhouse gas sequestration. Ecosystems such as salt marshes, sea grass beds and mangroves absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide and contribute to the world's carbon fixation and carbon storage.
