Stakeholders meeting of “Animal Identification and Registration System” (AIRS) project organized in Uvurkhangai aimag

“Animal Identification and Registration System” (AIRS) pilot project’s stakeholders meeting was organized in Arvaikheer city, Uvurkhangai aimag. The project will be implemented in Bayangol, Guchin-Us, Bat-Ulzii and Uyanga soums covering more than 190,000 animals of 350 herder households.

Ms. Saule.J, Deputy Minister of Food Agrictulture and Light Industry, Ms. Batsuren, Director General of Livestock Genetics and Pool Department, Vinod Ahuja, FAOR in Mongolia, Mr. Ganbold.G, Governor of Uvrurkhangai aimag, Mr. Divangar.S Livestock specialist Green Gold – Animal Health project by SDC, Representation of herders, Local government and veterinarians from three soums, Aimag Police Department and Private entities participated in the meeting to discuss detailed plan of the project and challenges. Ms. Batsuren, presented about the current Law and regulation on animal registration in Mongolia and detailed instruction on ear-tagging.

During her opening speech, Deputy Minister Ms. Saule.J emphasized “…it is necessary to accelerate, renew and develop the work on livestock registration, and establish a national database and system that meets global standards in order to develop the industry, and improve its competitiveness.“

Improving the animal identification and registration system has multiple benefits for Mongolia such as improving animal quality and gene pool, increasing productivity, expanding market access through the traceability systems, enhancing animal health and decreasing animal theft.

FAO Mongolia is closely working together with Green gold-Animal Health project by SDC  and MoFALI to develop an integrated registration system and natinoal database.
