25/03/2024

In a vibrant celebration of the International Day of Forests, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) hosted an engaging event for children aged 10 to 13, emphasizing the crucial role of forests in our ecosystem. The event was opened with inspiring remarks from Vinod Ahuja, the FAO Representative in Mongolia, alongside Mr. Ganbaatar, Vice Minister of Environment and Tourism.

The event aimed to instill appreciation and sense of stewardship for forests among the young participants. It entailed an introduction to the significance of forests, water, and soil. It also underscored sustainable forest management, as a key to combating climate change and contributing to the prosperity and well-being of communities.

A highlight of the day was the art session, where the children’s creativity shone brightly. The children produced artwork depicting forests, ranging from lush, vibrant forest scenes to illustrations of a world with and without forests, showcasing their understanding and concern for the environment.

Closing the event, UN Resident Coordinator Tapan Mishra delivered a heartfelt message, urging the students to cherish and protect Mother Earth. He encouraged them to aspire towards creating a world as beautiful as the one reflected in their artworks.

This memorable event not only celebrated the International Day of Forests but also planted seeds of environmental responsibility in the hearts and minds of the young participants.

Alongside awareness raising and youth engagement, FAO continues to work towards protecting all types of forests, restoring degraded lands, expanding agroforestry, rehabilitating raperian forests and building green value chains in Mongolia.
