FAO commits to sustain partnership with Cross River state to boost agriculture production, economy
Abuja - The Governor of Cross River state Professor Benedict Ayade has reiterated the commitment of his administration to through sustainable agriculture value chain development, grow the economy of the state.
The Governor made the remark when he received the Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) Fred Kafeero in his office in Calabar, that the comparative advantage the state has in agriculture guided his administration’s focus value chain policy. Thence his appeal to FAO for technical expertise and enhanced resource mobilisation to expand agriculture production in the state.
“Our core value chain focuses on the agricultural transformation of the state. The need to work with the FAO, therefore, becomes very imperative. We will want the FAO to provide us with financial intermediation and technical advisors”, Professor Ayade said.
Earlier the FAOR Kafeero said FAO is committed to supporting the government harness their agriculture potentials with the right technical expertise and other supports within its mandate. He noted that the FAO project, “Promoting Integrated Landscape Management and Sustainable Food Systems in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria” will support boost cocoa and palm oil production and their value chain in the state, will no doubt support bolster the economy.
