Climate change for forest policy-makers. An approach for integrating climate change into national forest programmes in support of sustainable forest management

Year of publication 2011
This publication is the outcome of a process initiated in 2009 with a series of national stakeholder workshops, aiming to support countries in the process of integrating climate change into their national forest programmes (NFPs). The experience and outcomes of these workshops informed the discussions of a group of experts convened at FAO in Rome in September 2010 to provide advice on the content of "Climate Change for Forest Policy-Makers". This document has been developed to help forest policy makers integrate climate change into existing national forest programmes (NFPs), or forest policy frameworks, and to encourage consistent treatment of forestry issues in national climate change strategies and policies. The document recognizes cross-sectoral coordination and cooperation as key success factor for a coherent approach on forests and climate change. The actions included in the document are consistent with the principles of the NFP approach and are intended to contribute to countries? efforts to achieve sustainable forest management.
