27-28 October 2014: The Global Dialogue on Family Farming

16/10/2014

The Global Dialogue on Family Farming (GDFF) will bring together diversified groups, including government and family farmers representatives, research institutes and development agencies representatives, in order to discuss the accomplishments of the International Year of Family Farming (IFF) as well as a pro-family farming agenda for post-2014. Speakers from organizations such as the World Farmers Organization, the World Rural Forum, and La Via Campesina will be presenting, as well as several FAO Ambassadors.

The agenda will facilitate discussing regional perspectives on family farming, the importance in raising the voices of family farmers, the role of women and youth in family farming, as well as the future of family farming and its legacy. Because the IYFF has been so successful in mobilizing policy discussions and initiatives world-wide, the legacy of the IYFF is expected to  ensure the continuation of the IYFF after 2014.

The International Year of Family Farming, 2014, has shed light on the potential role that family farms can play in eradicating poverty and safeguarding the environment. Family farmers have been placed at the center of agricultural discussion with the global objective of influencing policy dialogue in order to empower family farmers and enhance their productivity.
