Abstract
In accordance with the recommendations of the Steering Committee second session, the TECAM, SELAM, EAM and SIPAM Networks have been established in 1993 as results of serious efforts including UNDP and FAO to improve the most important feature of the Aquaculture Development.
TECAM & SELAM Networks:
The technical success of aquaculture has brought the sector much attention and has attracted a great deal of private and public investments. As the scientific and technical progress have expanded significantly over recent years, the TECAM Network will allow the transfer of knowledge on the promotion of adapted technologies for fry production, aquaculture engineering, fish food technology, feeding technics, pathology, fish farm management, etc…
The SELAM Network will gradually promote aquaculture technology within an appropriate socio-economic and legal frame work. It will allow the transfer of knowledge and the set up of market information system to favour the products' outlet, the set up of guidelines and data base on products' specifications, farm management, etc…
As CIHEAM has considerable experience in the planning, execution and monitoring of cooperative research networks, it has been entrusted the coordination of both networks.
EAM Network:
It has been recently recognised that intensive cultures are capable to endanger environment and production. The EAM network will contributes to the optimisation of aquaculture production, through the ecological characterisation of coastal zones, the set-up of site identification methodology, and management guidelines. It will also contributes to the protection of natural environment and will provide information on the environmental performance in order to define its appropriate position within the context of integrated coastal area management.
The mutual cooperation between MEDRAP and MAP-PAP/RAC initiated over the period 1984–87 have allowed the concretisation of several undertaken by both sides as regards the environmental aspect and their interaction on Aquaculture. The MAP-PAP/RAC will be in charge of the Network' s activities.
SIPAM Network:
The proposed Regional Information System was originated from various factors such as strong demand for corporate information; and the necessity to disseminated the various conclusions of MEDRAP II activities. The SIPAM system is designed by Mr. Coppola, FAO Rome, as a Central Data Bank, connected to all the Mediterranean Aquaculture Networks. Specific non-confidential information generated from other networks will feed the system for an inter-connection role.
SIPAM Regional Centre is located at the Ministry of Agriculture in Tunis. It will operate under direct coordination of GFCM Secretariat, assisted by the “Direction Générale de la Pêche et de l'Aquaculture”, Ministry of Agriculture, Tunisia.

Note from the reviser
The revision and publication of this document could only be done a long time after the closure of the project. This as led to some difficulties in finalising the documents and implementing corrections, because authors and contributors as well as some of the original material or files were no longer available.
Therefore contributions from participants and session papers annexed to most of the documents were left in their original form. No language connections were introduced, the content was not modified and left under their respective authors' responsibility.
Considering the above, we hope that the reader will understand that a standard of publication could not be maintained on a level as high as we would have liked it to be.
