Sri Lanka’s Fisheries Minister highlights importance of fisheries for ICN2 discussion

Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, met with FAO Director-General Josè Graziano da Silva on 10 June 2014 at the 31st Session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries. During the meeting, he highlighted the importance of the fisheries sector in addressing nutritional requirements of Sri Lankans, noting that fish provides over 72 percent of the animal protein intake of the population. He also advocated for the inclusion of fisheries and aquaculture in the agenda for ICN2.
