Pour une agriculture bas carbone, résiliente et prospère: The Shift Project publie son rapport final
The Shift Project has presented a bold vision to transform France’s agricultural sector, addressing its environmental, economic, and social challenges. With agriculture accounting for 18% of national greenhouse gas emissions, the report emphasizes the urgent need for low-carbon, resilient practices to secure food production, protect resources, and ensure economic viability for farmers.
Proposing deep systemic changes, the report highlights key strategies: reducing energy dependence, enhancing soil health, protecting biodiversity, and increasing carbon storage. It introduces a “conciliation scenario” to balance energy independence, domestic needs, and export capacities, paving the way for a resilient agricultural system aligned with climate and energy goals.
This collaborative effort involved over 300 stakeholders, including farmers and experts, and drew on insights from the “Grande Consultation des Agriculteurs,” with input from 7,700 respondents. The report provides clear recommendations to support farmers, invest in skills and research, and foster agroecology, laying the groundwork for a sustainable future.
This is just the beginning, with future efforts set to expand the scope to the entire food system, completing the transformation “from farm to fork.”
