Agroecology Knowledge Hub

What’s on the Horizon for 2025?

Edie Mukiibi, President of Slow Food, envisions 2025 as a pivotal year for action, advancing agroecological practices and global food system transformation. His leadership emphasizes the critical role of diversity, collaboration, and grassroots empowerment in tackling interconnected challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity.

Agroecology remains central to this mission. By expanding the Slow Food Farms network, the movement seeks to connect farmers, consumers, and communities, promoting sustainable practices that restore ecosystems, regenerate soils, and support local economies. Mukiibi stresses the need for education, biodiversity protection, and policies that counteract industrial agriculture's harmful impacts.

Drawing on his experience as an agronomist and farmer, Mukiibi advocates for global decisions prioritizing agroecological food systems, redirecting resources from industrial agriculture, and amplifying the voices of indigenous and local communities. As he puts it, "Even if corporations are giants, we are millions. Together, we can build a fair and resilient food future."
