Global lobbies in Murang’a to discuss agroecology
This article reports on a five-day conference in Murang'a County, Kenya, where civil society groups and farmers from 22 African and European countries gathered to discuss promoting agroecology for enhanced food security.
Organized by the U.S.-based faith organization Bread for the World, the event included visits to Wakas Farm in Sabasaba, recognized for its biodiversity and role as a demonstration farm. Murang'a County has been a leader in agroecology, becoming the first in Kenya to adopt an agroecological policy and Act in 2022. The county is currently mapping agroecological actors to better coordinate activities. The article emphasizes the importance of agroecological practices in addressing food and nutrition insecurity and climate change challenges in Africa.
