Linking food and feminisms: learning from decolonial movements

Feminist values are central to many food sovereignty and agroecology movements. Accordingly, feminisms that adopt an anti-colonial, decolonial, or indigenous perspective aim to reconstruct the non-hierarchical relationships between people, nature, and food.

This article is a part of the series "Agroecology in Motion: Nourishing Transformation". It explores intersectional feminisms with agroecology and food sovereignty. It highlights how a decolonial emphasis on gender and feminism, primarily from North and South America, is contributing to addressing the historical gaps and the potential of this perspective for nurturing today's feminist food movement.
