São Tomé and Príncipe in the construction of a national pact for agroecology

São Tomé and Príncipe have been building an important and internationally recognized path in the promotion of agroecology, which can be illustrated with almost a quarter of its entire agricultural area allocated to organic production.

The study “São Tomé and Príncipe in the construction of a national pact for agroecology ”, arises within the scope of the PAS – Sustainable Agrifood Policies project (Civil society in consolidating multi-stakeholder governance of food and nutrition security in São Tomé and Príncipe) implemented in São Tomé and Príncipe since January 2019 by the Instituto Marquês de Valle Flôr (IMVF), the Association for Cooperation and Development (ACTUAR) and Action for the Agricultural Development and Environmental Protection (ADAPPA) and co-financed by the European Union and Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language, IP.

The publication addresses the configurations of the country's food system, its main trajectories, existing institutions and concludes with some global and initial recommendations in the areas of knowledge, production, use of natural resources, and marketing/consumption for the active promotion of agroecology and transformation of the country's food system.
