The meeting is convened to discuss specific actions and mechanisms needed to progress aquaculture transformation in the region at the scale needed by 2030. This high-level meeting will provide special attention to opportunities for enhancing regional cooperation and partnerships for aquaculture transformation through innovation and investments.

A vision to 2030 and roadmap for aquaculture transformation actions

Aquaculture development in the region grows under various challenges, including resource scarcity and resource use conflicts, environmental pressure, climate change, generational changes and shifting globalization. Innovations and investment to transform aquaculture in the region are needed for a major shift towards more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable aquatic food systems.

The FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in collaboration with the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA) has formulated a White Paper titled, Aquaculture transformation – Innovation and investment for sustainable intensification and expansion of aquaculture in Asia and the Pacific region. The White Paper provides high level guidance on the translation of global targets, set until 2030, to concrete actions for aquaculture transformation.

The 2nd High-Level Meeting on Aquaculture Transformation in Asia and the Pacific Region will be guided by this White Paper and will also see the presentation of an Action Guide to ramp up momentum for aquaculture transformation and discuss the concept of the Asia-Pacific Aquaculture Investment and Innovation Hub.
