About HLPE 

    The High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) is composed of a Steering Committee of 15 internationally recognized experts in a variety of food security and nutrition related fields, Project Teams selected to analyze specific issues and a Secretariat, hosted by FAO.

    Key functions of the HLPE

    As directed by the CFS Plenary and Bureau, the HLPE advises the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), which is the foremost intergovernmental and international platform dealing with food security and nutrition.

    In particular, HLPE:

    • Assesses and analyzes the current state of food security and nutrition and its underlying causes.
    • Provides scientific and knowledge-based analysis and advice on specific policy-relevant issues, utilizing existing high-quality research, data and technical studies.
    • Identifies emerging issues and helps members prioritize future actions and attentions on key focal areas.


    Publication cycle

    The HLPE working processes ensure legitimacy among stakeholders and a high degree of scientific quality: they involve broad stakeholder consultations and the incorporation of different forms of knowledge and expertise, as well as a rigorous scientific peer-review process.
