The High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) is pleased to announce the launch of its report “Building resilient food systems” on 4 September 2025, at FAO headquarters (Green room), in Rome, Italy, at 14:00 CEST, in hybrid modality.
This report, requested by the Committee of World Food Security (CFS), addresses the urgent need to enhance food system resilience amidst escalating environmental, political and economic challenges. It emphasizes the importance of equitably transformative resilience, which involves enabling capacities and agency, and strengthening socioecological interdependencies to ensure food security and nutrition for all, while respecting planetary boundaries.
The report highlights the need to shift from traditional resilience approaches, which focus on bouncing back to predisturbance conditions, to approaches aimed at “bouncing forward” by means of transformative changes that address structural and systemic vulnerabilities. The report underscores the importance of diverse and equitable food systems in improving livelihoods and food security, particularly for those most affected by shocks and stresses. The report also provides evidence-based pathways to ensure that food systems can adapt and transform in the face of uncertainties.
It provides focused and action-oriented policy recommendations to build resilient food systems that can withstand shocks and stresses and calls for immediate and sustained action to build food system resilience and ensure the right to food for all and the well-being of the planet for future generations.
