Case from Thailand: Gotoknow.org

Hi All, I want to response the question Manish raised - How can content be best developed, updated and authenticated, and delivered to the intended beneficiaries? From Win's experience we found that content development is a continuous process and require innovation plus resources. We follow a methodology of CNA (Content Need Assessment) to identify the actual need of the users mainly farmers, validate by sector specific specialist (through a pool of experts) and Win developed a Content Update Schedule (CUS) based on agri-products to ensure regular update of the content. Finally the content is hosted in the web (www.ruralinfobd.com) and develop a CD version (as backup copy for centers) of the same to deliver at Information centers like GP CIC, GHAT, Alokito Gram and others. Farmers avail the information and advisory services from the centers and the center owner / operator work as the "interface' between the farmer and PC to deliver the service. Getting the endorsement of the concerned department of the government (like Agriculture Information Service) is one major challenge yet to resolve. Though most of our contents are validated by relevant govt. officials. Remain to hear from others. Best, Kashfia

Hello Sunit, I am Fazle Rashid from Bangladesh and working in a ICT4D project of SEBA. I visited the blog you reffered but coudnt understand the text (in thai) which is nice and looks realistic. It's quite an interesting concept and we are also trying something similar in Bangladesh, we used an interface between farmer & ICT to overcome challenges of poor capacity of the rural farmers in terms of using computer & basic literacy. During this process, we identified 'low awareness' as the major challenge to bring the farmers in the loop. Pl share me your eperience on the following issues - - do the farmers contribute (writing in the blog) directly i.e. using computer for blog? - what are the incentives to contribute in the blog? - what are the benefits offered for members? (beyond information, knowledge) Thanking you, Rashid Chittagong, Bangladesh

Dear Sunit, A most intersting activity. Is there any information on the farmer client using this service? (in terms of education, wealth, gender). Are there any studies in English that could be accessed. Noel
