Research on a toolkit to assist in sustainbility decisions

Hi everyone, Thanks for startng a discussion on Challenges for these initiatives further to the previous posts by Mr. ISlam and Mr. Shah masood Though the picture of e-agriculture initiatives seem very rosy, but my field level experience with some of these projects were disappointing. the biggest challenge in the success of these initiatives to really serve the purpose is the infrastructure; In rural areas, where there is no electricity availability throghout and internet connection, how can we expect these e-agriculture initiatives to be a succes. In fact. we need power back-ups and other infrsatructural suport. Installation and Maintainence of the electronic devices is another big issue. Training of stakeholders and farmers also need to be looked into . This is one of the major challenge. As most of the rural people do not know the use of computers.they need to be trained to all this. The use of specialised and user-friendly software and other technologies is also achallenge Thanks

Hi all, By way of introduction: I am an academic and my research involves developing tools that enable management and commuities to make (sustainable) decisons, and assess performance (on sustainability criteria). My toolkit is based on the premise that accountability in the context of global warming has to be at once local and global. Connection with agriculture: my research method is a social constructivist approach, and I have located my field research in agriculture because I believe there are significant advances in this field. My aim: at the moment advances in knowledge about sustainability is very much confined to pockets of society. If accountability has to be at once local and global, then we need to develop generalised frameworks from individual community experiences. I have set up a simple website - aimed at the public - explaining my toolkit. Url Sustainability toolkit url http://www.searchsa.com.au/kala/index.htm Cordially, Kala
