Dr. Peter McKeown is a Lecturer (Above the Bar) in Plant & AgriBiosciences in the University of Galway’s School of Biological & Chemical Sciences, and a member of the Agriculture, Food Systems and BioEconomy Research Centre at the Ryan Institute. He is Director of the MSc in Climate Change, Agriculture & Food Security. His research focuses on plant genetics and epigenetics, seed development, agricultural biodiversity, plant genetic resources, and climate impacts on crops. He read Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, completed an MSc in Plant Breeding and Biotechnology at the John Innes Centre, and earned a PhD in plant cell biology. Peter is currently a PI on EU-funded projects including Legumes for Development and EcoFoodSystems and contributes to international collaborations across Africa and Asia. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers and co-edited three books, including the Routledge Handbook of Agricultural Biodiversity.
