Hello there,

I have been away on work trips town. Just got access to internet today and can see am way behind. Just saw the first excecise and did not want to miss out and fortunately the submission deadline is today. Hope I can catch up with the rest soon.

My experience with drones. I have never interacted with a drone before but I have watched alot of youtube videos about drones and diffrent types and uses. A friend of mine who works with and agricultural firm attended a training on drones in Uganda recently and came back and shared how cool drones were. They were using a 3DR Solo and their purpose was for close range mapping in order to collect farm information or spatial data for GIS experts.

I am particularly interested in two aspects of drone technology application. In Geospatial survey of compartments and maaping in forestry and in photography. I want to gain hands on Knowledge of drone operation and explore the potential it has in improving production and at the same time cutting costs.

My friend who has experienced drone use had a challenge in syncing one of the mapping applications I think Agisoft, am not so sure with a DJI drone they had hired. They also were anticipating to capture pictures in the mapping process for an ordinary farmer in the rural community to be able to interpret but the images were lidar format. Here in my country there is no clear regulation on the use of drones hence you fly and go figure it out incase you get into trouble. But soon we will have some clearly stated rules. It is also expensive to acquire a drone as an individual.

Lessons learned from my watching of youtube videos and from my friend who has had an experience with drones are numerous. First the opportunities in drone tech are endless. We have learnt that acquiring knowledge on operation and application is the best approach to take with or without one.
