Q1) A IEEE LOM application profile. Q2) 2 different levels of conformance exist. At the very basic one, only a few metadata fields but this is not recommended, so in the "regular" form, users should provide about 20-25 metadata elements of information. Q3) Expert reviews through a metadata quality workflow Q5) I couldn't tell just like that. But if completely necessary to choose, I would prefer to have just a few wel described and relevant to the topic of my interest. For huge repositories with no metadata I already have google :) Best regards, Salvador
There are two main purposes for metadata - to enable people to discover things and to enable machines to talk to each other. (Well perhaps three if you count metadata that supports preservation and administration - or is that four?)....
Well, in my opinion, from a teacher's perspective the most important thing about metadata is that it helps me to select the resources I need without inspecting all the elements in veeeeeeeeeeeeery long lists of educational resources. But if you want to get it like this, your metadata must be good, descriptive and apropriate for everyone. If also multilingual, you will guarantee the ssame benefits for a wider audience. Metadata descriptions like "A photo of an organic farm" are useless, so if this is what we are prepared to put in, let's forget about. Instead, comprehensive, detailed, standard-complinat metadata are pricesless!! Regards, Salvador
Q4. I have already created a list of available online repositories and portals that provide copyright-free content on my research areas. This list includes Organic.Edunet web portal, TrAgLor, Bio@gro portal, FAO's document repositories, OrgEprints etc. I prefer these sources over the simple Google search because in this way I can get more accurate and in-topic results. So the answer to this question is YES, I find it easy to retrieve educational resources online.
I don't find particularly easy to find quality materials over the Web. Google is fine but resources retrieved thorugh it lack important information I need, such as educational level and the like... I don't want to examine long lists of resources as a pre-step to using them! So, I'd rather go to specialized repositories, where I can find good metadata and not only content. But apart from Organic.Edunet (which is nice but I feel the contents could be of a higher quality) I find it difficult to find what I look for. Best regards, Salvador
