Double transplanting of (t. aman) rice to reduce impacts of drought spells during monsoon (Kharif II) season

In Bangladesh, rice, and variations in its yield, is the key staple crop. It is critical to the livelihoods of that part of the population depending on agriculture. Transplanted aman (t. aman) is the second rice crop grown in the wet kharif II season, between July and November. However it may be strongly affected by drought spells. On the other hand, with early and heavy rainfall in the rainy season, fields are flooded and seedlings cannot be easily transplanted. In the case of continuous rain for 10 to 15 days, seedlings go down to the water and transfer from the seedling bed becomes urgent. If seedlings are ready to be transplanted but the main field is not ready for transplantation due to excessive flooding, it is essential to transfer the seedlings to another interim seedling bed on higher land with drainage facilities. This needs to be done before the final transplantation into the main field, when the situation allows, can be done.
