Veckūkuri Farm
The farm Veckūkuri, located in the Strenči County, Jērcēni Rural Municipality, Cālīši, is managed by Ilvija Jakovina, her husband Jānis, and their sons Robins Jānis and Ričards Dāvis. The herd consists of 75 Holstein Black and white cows. The best yield from the highest-yielding cow is 12 000 kg. The farm also manages approximately 100 ha of pasturelands.
Veckūkuri took up dairy farming in 2000. Initially, the farm had six dairy cows; now, there are approximately 150 cows in the purebred herd. The farm has been actively involved in the implementation of SAPARD projects and numerous EU Structural Funds projects. The implementation of these projects enabled the farm to provide good conditions to the livestock, introduce a modern farming model and to produce high-quality products. Due to the crisis in the milk sector, in late 2008, Veckūkuri made a decision to market milk “straight from the cow” directly to consumers via a retail network. Thus, the milk route “from cow to customer” was established. The brand Mans miens (My milk) was created. In the spring of 2010, the farm began producing yoghurt. At the beginning of 2012, the farm had 160 cattle, 80 of which were dairy cows: Holstein Black-and-white, Latvian Brown, Holstein Red, Danish Red, and other cross-breeds of dairy cow varieties. The farm developed a now renowned logo Mans piens and a slogan: “A satiated person is a happy person”.
