The 7th Shenzhen Food Safety Forum 2023 held on 8 and 9 November 2023 in Shenzhen, China, commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC).

This high-level forum was hosted by the Shenzhen Food and Drug Safety Commission Office with full support provided by the Commission’s Director-General Cai Yingquan and the Shenzhen Administration for Market Regulation. The event was organized by the Shenzhen Institute of Standards and Technology.

In his opening address, Mr Chan Yaodong, Deputy Secretary-General, Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, highlighted the importance of ensuring food safety, which is a major political objective aimed at protecting the health of consumers and improving the livelihood of the population. In addition, the forum was informed that ensuring food safety also contributed to fostering economic development in China. Furthermore, the forum recognized the important role played by science and technology in ensuring safe and nutritious food for consumers, both in China and in the rest of the world.

Numerous eminent speakers including, among others, Mr Steve Wearne, Chairperson of the CAC, Mrs Awilo Ochieng Pernet, former Chairperson of the CAC, Mr Fan Yongxiang, Chairperson of the Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA) and Mr Tom Heilandt, former Secretary of the CAC, congratulated Codex on its 60th Anniversary. The 7th Shenzhen Food Safety Forum 2023 celebrated the historic Codex 60th Anniversary with a joyful and memorable cake-cutting ceremony.
