23/11/2023

The FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Asia (CCASIA) held a “Codex colloquium” on 15 and 16 November 2023 in Xiamen, China. The colloquium was hosted and chaired by the Regional Coordinator, which operates from within the China National Centre for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA). Sixteen Member Countries from the CCASIA region attended the event.

“I couldn’t be happier to meet our CCASIA family members in person, especially after the pandemic,” said Dr Tian Jing, Regional Coordinator for CCASIA.

During the two-day colloquium, different sessions were conducted to discuss topics including a “Review of Codex Capacities Across CCASIA” and an “Introduction to the Asia Codex Initiative”, “Reviews of Outputs of Key Codex Committees”, “Important Considerations of the Region in Preparation for CAC46” and “Reviewing Best Practices in Preparing for Codex Committees”.

“In the colloquium, we discuss and identify the key issues in food safety control for CCASIA Members, and with that we can prioritize the work in CCASIA, and explore opportunities for future collaboration in the region,” highlighted Dr Tian.

The colloquium also provided opportunities for CCASIA Members to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Codex.
