World Food Safety Day / 700 children participate in Food Safety Week in Portuguese municipality

05/06/2025

Schools across the Municipality of Alcobaça, Portugal, participated in Food Safety Week from 26 to 30 May, in anticipation of World Food Safety Day on 7 June. This year's edition, themed “Science in Action”, involved 700 children from the municipality.

On 30 May, the Alfeizerão School Center welcomed Ana Filipa Pereira, a technician from the Alcobaça Municipal Council, known as “Pipa Vitamina” who organized interactive activities. In the classroom, students conducted physical-chemical experiments and visualized plates with microorganisms to emphasize the crucial role of science in ensuring safer food. They also engaged with various instruments that allowed them to actively build knowledge about the diverse scientific actions that enable the prevention, detection, and management of food-borne risks, thus preventing health risks.

Alcobaça City Council collaborated with Sumol+Compal, which provided games from the "Compal Factory," and INIAV, IP – Polo de Alcobaça, which supplied laboratory equipment and apples.
