The delegation of Lebanon thanked the outgoing officers and looked forward to a “new phase with a new governing team” that could work together towards achieving the mandate and vision of Codex. “With Dr Mariam Eid we have a vice Chair who knows the challenges of the region very well and will be extremely pro-active in order to make a difference”, they said.

The delegation of Indonesia thanked the Commission for its support and also thanked the outgoing Chair and Vice Chairs for “having brought Codex to this level”. They expressed the hope that with Dr Purwiyatno Hariyadi Codex could “become more relevant to real problems of food safety and international trade”.

The delegation of the United Kingdom said: “We are proud and honoured that the UK candidate Steve Wearne has been elected today vice Chair of the Codex Alimentarius Commission. As a vice Chair Steve looks forward to serving in the interests of all Codex members for an inclusive, transparent and effective Codex which can deliver on its twin objectives”, they added.
