Fossick Project is a duo formed by illustrator Cecilia Valagussa and singer-songwriter Marta Del Grandi. The two artists bring on stage a contemporary form of shadow theatre inspired by the endangered animal species and the diversity of landscapes in the world and suggests a reflection on environmental and climate change issues. Their live act consists of Cecilia’s analog animation on the overhead projector, on which she manually moves puppets drawn on scraps of colored film sheets, and other materials such as sand, water and small objects. Marta writes alternative-pop songs that combine catchy melodies with electronic sounds and samples.
This contemporary shadow theatre showcases in a light and engaging style the interactions between people, the soil beneath our feet and soil salinization. This video was launched at the opening of the World Soil Day 2021 official event celebrated under the motto “Halt soil salinization, Boost soil productivity”. FAO, through its Global Soil Partnership has the official mandate to implement the worldwide World Soil Day celebrations. The two artists, Cecilia Valagussa and the singer-songwriter Marta Del Grandi are part of the Fossick Project.
BRICKS FOR LIFE, prepared by Fossick Project for the FAO’s GSP Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition (26-29 July 2022, FAO HQ). It tells the story of a modern adventure in the nutrient cycle’s world, from the soil below our feet to the table. To promote creativity, action, and citizen engagement, FAO, its Global Soil Partnership, and the International Union of Soil Sciences launched three contests with overwhelming global participation. The booklet contest united designers and soil scientists to create 16-page educational booklets, receiving 109 entries worldwide. The podcast contest aimed at crafting educational content for children, the podcast contest attracted 27 entries. The soil health guardian contest highlighted sustainable soil practices of farmers.
