Moroccan locust (DMA) hatching was completed in all Central Asian (CA) countries and hopper development continued in April, with fledging starting in some southern parts. Hatching was recorded in Azerbaijan at the end of the reporting period. Italian locust (CIT) hatching started in southern Kazakhstan at the end of the month. Asian Migratory locust (LMI) hatching has not been observed so far. In May, DMA fledging and mating will occur in CA, while mass hatching will start, followed by hopper development, in the Caucasus and the Russian Federation. CIT hatching will start in other Caucasus and Central Asian (CCA) countries. LMI hatching may start in its historical breeding areas, in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan. Control operations continued in CA in April, reaching 526 558 hectares (ha) by the end of the month, which is about 15% lower compared to the same period of 2025 (621 657 ha).
