Livestock and agricultural mechanization take center stage in September at FAO

18/07/2023

For the first time ever, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will be hosting two back-to-back conferences looking at the challenges and solutions for sustainable livestock management and agricultural mechanization for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.

First up will be the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation from 25 to27 September 2023 to engage in dialogues on innovations and pathways to efficiently produce safe, nutritious and accessible animal-source foods with a reduced environmental footprint and contribute to vibrant local and diversified livestock systems that are more resilient to shocks and disruptions.

As the Livestock meeting comes to an end, the Global Conference on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanizationwill kick off from 27 to 29 September 2023. Focusing on “Efficiency, Inclusiveness and Resilience” the discussions will highlight the contributions and benefits stemming from the sustainable development of agricultural mechanization and digitalization. The event will also allow prioritization of related recommendations and commitments, in line with the implementation of FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-31 and will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Both conferences willbring together a wide range of experts and stakeholders from around the world for focused dialogues – including FAO Members, farmers, extension specialists, opinion leaders, policymakers, scientists, and representatives from academia, civil society, NGOs, and the private sector.

A joint exhibit focusing on technological paths, agricultural machinery, equipment innovations and livestock solutions will be set up at FAO headquarters during the entire week.

Simultaneous interpretation in all six FAO Official languages will be available during plenary sessions of both events.
