World Bee Day Celebration and Second International forum for action on sustainable beekeeping and pollination

20 – 22 May 2025, Jimma Town, Ethiopia
Recognizing the pivotal role of bees and other pollinators in sustaining biodiversity and food security, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the Governments of Ethiopia and Slovenia, and with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Apimondia, will host the Second International Forum on Sustainable Beekeeping in Jimma Town, Ethiopia from 20 to 22 May 2025.
This annual event will convene a range of stakeholders, including government representatives, policymakers, scientists, industry leaders, practitioners, non-governmental organizations and civil society. Following the recommendation of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA) for FAO to take steps to create a global pollinators platform, the primary goal of the Forum is to foster international collaboration on beekeeping and pollination, ensuring that policies and practices evolve in response to emerging challenges and opportunities.
Coinciding with World Bee Day 2025, whose celebration on 20 May will officially open the Forum, the event will also provide a platform to exchange knowledge, showcase innovative beekeeping initiatives, inspire global action for pollinator-friendly agricultural practices, and coordinate efforts to conserve and protect pollinators worldwide. While the Forum has a global scope, in 2025, the focus will be on Africa, with Ethiopia serving as the host country.
The event will take place in person at Haile Resort, Jimma Town, Ethiopia. All sessions will be conducted in English.
