Duration:

12 months (with extension up to a maximum of 36 months based on performance and project requirements).

Probation period  3 months

Organizational Setting: FAO Mongolia works with the vision "to be a leading, credible and responsive partner in ensuring food and nutrition security of the population". The office has been coordinating projects and programmes in research, capacity building,  natural resources management, technology transfer, food and agriculture policy, livestock production systems management, emergency and post crisis management, forestry information, statistics, food security and nutrition, emergency response operations, crop production system management, and food quality and safety.

 

Reporting Lines: The Team Leader works under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative, Mongolia, and in close coordination with LCP PIU (Project Implementation Unit of the Livestock Commercialization Project) coordinator, technical supervision of the FAO Project Task Force (PTF) and the Lead Technical Officer (LTO).

Technical Focus: Designing and implementing of animal health, disease control, one Health, laboratory upgradation, epidemiology and food safety programmes in less developed countries

Tasks and responsibilities: 

  • Technical lead of project components in close collaboration with GAVS and the international team leader
  • Support team leader in oversight, coordination and facilitation of the project 
  • Liaise actively with the MoFALI, GAVS and other related agencies to ensure the effective implementation of the project
  • Support building partnership with national counterparts and other partners involved in animal health, zoonotic disease and food safety
  • Communicate the project and act as liaison between involved project partners the government, public, media, investors and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and inclusiveness
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices relating to improved animal health and One Health service delivery at relevant meetings and conferences
  • Liaise closely with relevant technical officers at HQ to ensure the control of key transboundary animal diseases is in alignment with the relevant global strategies particularly FMD and PPR
  • Prepare progress reports as per the requirement of the consultancy by Government/World Bank as well as FAO as directed by the international team leader
  • Any other works within technical competence as may be requested by FAO. 

 

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Qualified veterinarian or advanced degree in public health, epidemiology or another field related to animal health, One Health or food safety
  • At least five years of relevant experience in two of the following areas: education, animal health, food safety or laboratory systems
  • Good understanding of animal health sector in Mongolia
  • At least two years of experience in government, private or UN system
  • Excellent command in English including ability to write clearly and concisely in English on technical level
  • Experience in the government or UN system is an asset
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills, accurate with attention to detail
