Coalition on Better Data Better Decisions for Nature-Positive Production

Context

Faced with a matter of years to protect, sustainably manage, and restore our landscapes that support food systems, we urgently need to make the right decisions to enable nature-positive production. To make better decisions, we need to be supported by transparent, accessible, and credible data and information. Most importantly, better data can drive better decisions for nature-positive production when is it relevant and aligned to the needs of critical stakeholders protecting, managing, restoring, and investing in landscapes.

Objective

This Coalition will make a case for aligning data and information with needs of stakeholders for sustainable landscapes and food systems transformation. We will collect and share evidence on the critical role that data and information play as a catalyst of better decision making. We will explore the conditions necessary to move from ambition to action to support sustainable landscapes and food systems transformation based on data, monitoring systems and information dissemination. We will bring together critical stakeholders across multiple scales to share and reflect on replicable cases where data and monitoring systems already drive better decisions for nature-positive production.

Approach

The Coalition will build on work taking place in many countries. It will reflect work at different scales – at local, national, and global level. It will collect evidence, on data-driven approaches to protection, sustainable management, and restoration. The work of the Coalition will span the whole cycle of action from planning, over implementation to evaluation impacts. The Coalition will address governments, local actors, NGOs, and the private sector.
