A programme that helps rural women in Kyrgyzstan gain access to new economic opportunities has received significant financial support from the Swedish government.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR), has launched the project “Support sustainable water management and irrigation modernization for newly reclaimed areas”.

On the side of the 10th Session of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation (KIADPAI) and the 6th International Date Palm Conference, FAO has renewed two important partnerships in the region to support local date palm production.

Saudi Arabia will provide a new $2 million contribution to support FAO’s global efforts to eradicate Red Palm Weevil one of the world’s most invasive pest species.

FAO has been recently approved two projects to strengthen community-fisheries in Tonga and Samoa. The aim of the projects is to strengthen the technical capacity for both countries to improve and streamline their community-based fisheries management programmes.
